Snowboard Pictures - Snowboard companies always have great photos
How to take great Snowboard Pictures like the pros!
Everyone knows that a picture is worth a thousand words. That is even truer for snowboard pictures. It is difficult to take snowboard pictures that capture the magnitude and speed of a fast moving snowboarder; especially on the new Salomon snowboards.
The goal is to get a focused shot with good lighting that is close enough for the viewer to get a feeling for the speed and energy that was present when the snowboard pictures were taken. In order to do that you need to set up downhill as close to where the action will happen without putting yourself in harm's way. Ideally you will have a handheld remote that will activate the camera so that you can distance yourself from the snowboarder.
Catching snowboarding action in a single frame requires the right equipment. You should have your camera mounted on a small tripod to help reduce blur caused by the slight vertical movement of your hand when you take snowboard pictures. However, make sure the camera can swivel on the tripod so you can follow the rider down the hill and through the shot. Focus more on the actual snowboard than the person. It is easier to anticipate where the snowboard will be than where the body will go and the two usually stay together. If you follow the board, the rider should be close behind it!
Use a slower shutter speed and purchase film specific to the conditions you're shooting in. Snowboard pictures usually turn out better when it's sunny outside if you use high-speed film. Likewise, use low-speed film when it's cloudy or for night sessions.
