RED Helmet Impact Protection Builds Team
of Top Pro Snowboarders.
Burlington, VT – Ten years ago, you’d see only a handful of snowboarders wearing helmets on the hill. Nowadays, most pro riders fully back helmets and won’t drop into a halfpipe or steep backcountry shoot without one. Since 1996, R.E.D. impact protection has been creating helmets and body protection that enables riders to progress, overcome fear and push their limits. With some of snowboarding’s top riders running R.E.D. helmets, the company boasts one of the most legit helmet teams in the industry. R.E.D. team riders are very involved in the product development process, giving input on product colors, styles, graphics, features and fit. Check out highlights from the R.E.D. team’s 2004 season.
Shaun White has been a pro snowboarder since
the age of 13 and has his own signature R.E.D. helmet model.
This past season, Shaun added the Air and Style title to his
long list of victories. He also won the Session-At-Vail Slopestyle
for the second year in a row, throwing amazing trick combos,
including three 900’s in a row — the first ever in any competition.
Shaun took first at the 2004 X Games Slopestyle for the second
year in a row, posting the highest slopestyle score in the
sport’s history. And on top of all this, he managed to focus
a lot of time and energy on filming his own movie, “The White
Album,” set to premiere on his 18th birthday.
Kelly Clark was on the podium at contests
12 times this season, including six halfpipe victories. She
spent plenty of time away from the halfpipe and contest scene
this past winter as well. Kelly ventured into the backcountry
getting footage for a Burton women’s segment in Warren Miller’s
2005 release. She also achieved a personal goal last winter
by climbing to the podium in both halfpipe and slopestyle
at the 2004 Philips US Open. With riding skills that reach
far beyond the halfpipe, Kelly’s pushing the progression of
women’s snowboarding on all fronts.
Hannah Teter was also a permanent podium
fixture at contests during the 2003/04 season, winning a total
of five halfpipe competitions, including the 2004 Vans Triple
Crown at Breckenridge, CO, the 2004 Park City Grand Prix and
the 2004 X Games. Hannah’s positive attitude, easy-going personality
and youthful exuberance keeps everyone around her stoked and
easily makes her a center of attention at every contest.
Kjersti Buaas is the Norwegian pipe and kicker
queen renowned for her lack of fear, pushing the limits and
setting the industry standard for air to fakies in the pipe
and frontside sevens on kickers. With a natural eye for the
tiniest detail, Kjersti provides valuable feedback on RED
products.
Mikey Rencz has been filming with Defective
Films this past season for their debut release “Promo Copy”
due out in the fall of 2004. When he’s not deep in the Whistler
backcountry hitting kickers, you can catch him cruising through
the Blackcomb park, throwing down sevens and nines. Be on
the lookout for Mikey as he continues to progress and make
his way up in the snowboard world.
Luke Mitrani, Mikkel Bang, Fredrik Austbø,
Christian Haller and Tommy Emanuelson, AKA, “The Kids” may
be small in stature, but the size of their airs and super
smooth style leaves riders twice their height and age in awe.
Ranging from 13 to 16 years old, the kids conquer youth contests,
photo shoots and candy stores around the world. Rocking R.E.D.
helmets whenever they’re on snow, the kids are always pushing
the limits.
In 2005, the riders backing R.E.D. will continue to step up to the next level. And R.E.D. will continue to create rider-driven products that help them progress.
